The We Are MV Scholarship Fund was founded by and 100% supported by employees of the Mount Vernon School District. Our mission is to recognize students who have left a lasting legacy in their school and/or community and provide them with scholarships to support their future education.

PAST RECIPIENTS
The following scholarship recipients were recognized for the lasting legacy they left behind at MVHS and in the community.

ERICA SOTELO-SALGADO, CLASS OF 2017
Erica was the recipient of the inaugural We Are MV Scholarship. She was a member of the first mariachi band at MVHS and successfully helped lobby the Washington Music Educators Association to include a mariachi category for state competition.

ADAMARIS RODARTE, CLASS OF 2018
Adamaris left behind a legacy of inclusivity by creating the display of flags in the cafeteria representing the backgrounds of all students from MVHS. In addition, she was a peer educator with Teen Council.

DANIEL CARRILLO, CLASS OF 2019
Daniel left behind a legacy of hard work, persistence, and rising above the challenges that he faced. From his application essay: “my contributions to my community can’t be measured because my goal is to bring hope to a school filled with people who are underrepresented like me to follow their dreams.”

RENAD ALSILIMY, CLASS OF 2020
Renad was recognized for her commitment to leading MVHS with both passion and integrity. Through her work with ASB, she has established traditions such as multicultural week and mental health week that showcase her compassion and desire to celebrate the cultures and stories that make Mount Vernon great.

LILY ZAVALA, CLASS OF 2020
Lily was recognized for her commitment to social justice in education and her community. She has been a role model to Latinx students through her work as a community volunteer, team captain of both varsity volleyball and basketball, and her excellence in the classroom.

ESME MERINO-RAMIREZ, CLASS OF 2021
Esmeralda Merino-Ramirez was recognized for her work with Migrant Leaders Club, involvement with the MVHS interpretation and translation program, and activism through the Latino Legislative Conference. Her legacy as an advocate for migrant and bilingual students as well as her powerful personal voice as a published poet has helped bring awareness to the adversity faced and resilience of MVHS students.

MARIA ARELLANO-VALENCIA, CLASS OF 2021
Maria Arellano-Valencia was recognized for her leadership with MVHS Mariachi, Folklorico, and Cheer. Her legacy as a founder and contributor to these groups stands out amongst her peers, and she will leave MVHS with greater representation and recognition of Hispanic/Latino culture

MARCELA MENDOZA, CLASS OF 2022
Marcela Mendoza was recognized for her involvement in Latinos in Action (inaugural president), Migrant Leaders Club, and Folklorico Dance. The legacy Marcela leaves behind is a result of her pride in her community and herself, honoring the great diversity of Mount Vernon High School.

LITZY SERRANO-PACHECO, CLASS OF 2023
Litzy was recognized for her legacy of kindness and generosity, demonstrated largely through her role as a board member of LUCHA and her collaboration with other student organizations. She is attending Gonzaga University and studying Elementary Education. She hopes to return to Mount Vernon and teach in the dual language program.

JACKSON STAHLECKER, CLASS OF 2023
Jackson Stahlecker leaves behind a legacy of being a role model and inspiring young student athletes to be their best by volunteering as a youth football coach for 4 years. Jackson will be attending Gonzaga University and majoring in Math with the goal of returning to MVHS to teach and coach.

MEL FUIMAONO, CLASS OF 2024
Mel leaves behind a legacy of inclusivity by creating the Pacific Islander Association, which became a safe space for students to motivate each other academically and learn about their customs and traditions. Mel also helped create a positive environment at MVHS as ASB president. Mel is attending the University of Washington next year and plans to study Public Health.

EMMA JOHNSON, CLASS OF 2024
Emma is recognized for her legacy of creating a path for women in shop classes and careers in the trades, as she has created a community of female students being successful in wood shop and welding. In addition to this, Emma is an example to all that being a skilled tradesperson is not a defining characteristic; Emma is a 4.0 student and a varsity volleyball player. Next year Emma is continuing her welding training at Skagit Valley College and will also play on the SVC Volleyball team.
